88x31 buttons

88x31 buttons being showcased in the bottom of Unbloated's website

88x31 buttons are little bitmaps/gifs showcased on websites that may express topics, likes/dislikes, or credits to other people's websites.

Origins

Those pesky buttons were first seen on Geocities (made in 1994, quite old!), a website by Yahoo! that were making able people to make their own websites. These sort of buttons appeared exactly after Netscape made their own buttons people could showcase on their website for promoting the browser.

Right after, the concept got customized and people promoted their own browser right after this trend.

Since NeoCities took fame, those buttons were embraced and remixed to look much better. See the first image for an example.
